Center for Teaching and Learning

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides learning support for all SHU students. CTL staff work with faculty to support course objectives and enhance students’ skills and knowledge with the goal that each student evolves as a lifelong learner. Academic support can play an instrumental role in student success by building self-confidence and self-awareness and promoting self-directed learning. CTL staff recognizes that every student is a unique learner and strives to offer learning strategies that respond to each student’s needs.

The CTL offers a range of services that students can select from and combine to suit their individual learning process and achieve their academic goals:

Academic Support Services include 1-on-1 in-person and online course-specific tutoring with professional and peer tutors; group study sessions and office hours by Classroom Learning Assistants (CLAs); specialized Learning Labs in math, biology, chemistry, physics, and genetics; writing support through 1-on-1 in-person and online meetings with writing tutors, online paper reviews through the Online Writing Lab (OWL), and writing workshops.

The Pioneer Academic Support Services (PASS) Portal is the central hub for students to schedule tutoring and writing support, and to find Classroom Learning Assistant (CLA) and Learning Lab schedules.

The Center for Teaching and Learning is located on West Campus in suite W-223B, with tutoring locations available at many campus locations. For more information, contact ctltutoring@sacredheart.edu.
