EDD 705 SEL Pedagogy & Practice
This is the second course in the series of SEL courses and focuses on SEL pedagogy situated in a comprehensive curriculum. Curriculum and instruction are dynamic - not fixed and stable. Change in education is iterative and responsive to new learning, context, research, policy, and the needs of ALL students. Resultantly, pedagogy requires an open mindset and cognitive flexibility. The focus of this course will be on understanding adult learning needs in the SEL space, the alignment of long-term transdisciplinary and social emotional skills with disciplinary teaching across the Pre-K-12 landscape, applying principles of neuroscience to teaching and learning, creating learning environments centered on equity, social, emotional and academic growth, and development of cultures of belonging.
