HI 288 Russia and Its Empire to 1917

This course covers Russian and East European history to 1917. It begins with the foundations of the Russian state in the early modern period. It addresses social, cultural, and political histories of the 18th and 19th centuries and concludes with the First World War and revolutions. Particular attention will be given to Muslim, Jewish, and Ukrainian experiences of empire.
